His Word Connects! (Those Bones Can Live - Devotion #2)

4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! (Ezekiel 37)

Whenever the word of God is spoken into a situation of hopelessness and death– it carries into that situation, hope and life!

Because the word of God is “living and active” (Hebrews 4:12), it’s a word that effects change wherever it is spoken! It was this word of God that spoke the world into existence in Genesis when God said “Let there be...” & there was! (Genesis 1)

God reminds us through the prophet Isaiah:

My word “will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10 – 11.

In Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones, Ezekiel is instructed to prophesy to the dead, dry bones and say: “‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!”

He obeys.

“7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.”

As those dead, dry bones connected with the word of God – something started to happen. As Ezekiel started speaking God’s Word that which was scattered started coming together; that which was dead started showing signs of life; there was now renewed hope that that which was dead could indeed live again.

Friend, never ever underestimate the power of God’s Word!

As you avail yourself to hear God’s word; as you get yourself to where the Word of God is spoken, whether from pulpits of Bible-believing, Jesus-glorifying churches or upon other occasions like attendance at Bible Studies, small groups, or in godly conversation with a fellow Christian brother or sister – it’s at that point of contact with the word of God that hope is restored.

Whatever you do, do not deprive yourself and your dead, dry situation of hollowness and hopelessness of the hallowness of God’s Holy Word! Hear it! Study it! Memorise it! Do what it takes to allow that life-giving word to penetrate and permeate the depths of your dearth. Something must happen. The situation cannot remain unaltered!

“Can these bones live again?” Yes they can because your hope is grounded in the word of the One Who is forever faithful and true, who watches over His word to perform it.

Speak your Word Lord to my dry bones

Speak your Word so that they can live

Life and hope replace my dryness and dearth

New vision and purpose give.

Amen
