Remember! You are Remembered!

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7 NIV

Who likes to be remembered?

The answer to this maybe obvious in most cases: we all like to be remembered.

  • Remembered for who we are;

  • Remembered for the things we have done;

  • Remembered for the difference we made in the lives of others.

If the truth be told, nobody likes to be forgotten.

In reality, amid the busyness of life, the daily grind, tending to the many voices that relentlessly demand one’s attention, it is quite easy for the memory of one to inadvertently drop lower on the 'To Do list' of our dearest friends, family and acquaintances. This is neither intentional nor deliberate; it is unfortunately the effect of been caught up in a very fast paced 21st century lifestyle; the collateral damage of the modern lifestyle is in many cases, relationships.

Does it seem you are in a space where you feel that nobody cares? Nobody calls? Nobody comes? Where are those friends for once walked and talked with you along the way? Why do you always need to do the reaching out? Why do you need to make the effort to maintain the relationship, when it seems that the other party is not?

Dear friend, perhaps some of these intrusive thoughts upon which you are ruminating do have some basis. Perhaps you are the one doing all the hard work while your friends do you not see the need to do so. However, there is one thought that cannot be further from the truth. There is one thought that cannot be validly accommodated; the thought that you are alone; the thought that nobody cares.

In this reading from Luke's gospel, we are provided with a powerful reminder: You and I are not forgotten.

- God, the father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, that God;

- the God who hung the world in space and flung all the stars in place, that God;

- the God in whose hands lie the power of life and death itself, that God;

he remembers you. He will not forget you. He walks with you. He knows you better than you know yourself. He loves you unconditionally. If he remembers and cares for the sparrows of the air, how much more will he not be mindful of you, his precious child; the one who has been made in his very image.

As you journey through life, navigating the highs and the lows, negotiating the sharp bends in the road ahead, may you do so with the full assurance of his presence with you, his power within you, his peace available to you in any and every situation in your face.

You are not forgotten!

God bless
