DAY 15: "Joy" (Series: Advent Emotions)

But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’”Luke 2:10 (NIV):

How can you experience joy even when life doesn’t go as planned? Joy often surprises us, appearing in moments we least expect. The shepherds were tending their flocks on an ordinary night when the angel delivered extraordinary news. Their fear turned into overwhelming joy as they hurried to Bethlehem to witness the arrival of the Messiah.

Advent reminds us that joy isn’t dependent on perfect circumstances. It’s found in the presence of God and in the beauty of His promises.

Joy grows when we choose to see beyond our challenges and recognize the ways God is working in and around us.

This season, allow joy to take root in your heart. It might come in a moment of laughter with loved ones, in the quiet of prayer, or in the realization of God’s abundant love for you. Joy is a gift we are called to embrace and share, even in life’s uncertainties.

Mental Health Moment

Joy can coexist with other emotions like sadness or fear. Cultivate joy by intentionally seeking moments of delight each day:

  • watch a sunrise,

  • listen to uplifting music, or

  • spend time with someone who brings you peace.

Joy isn’t the absence of hardship; it’s the presence of hope.

Let’s Reflect

When was the last time you felt true joy?

• What is one way you can seek or share joy this Advent season?

“Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.” Karl Barth

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of joy. Help me to see it in the small and unexpected places this Advent season. Fill my heart with Your presence and teach me to share this joy with others, bringing hope to those around me. Amen.
