“Breathe On Me, Breath of God”

Updated: Jan 30, 2018

8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)

Bible Reading: John 2:23-3:15

In my birth city, Cape Town (South Africa) a seasonal south-easterly wind, nicknamed the “Cape Doctor” makes itself felt each Spring/Summer. The effects of this gusty wind is clearly evident. It’s not an unusual sight to see slightly built pedestrians holding onto the nearest pole as they struggle to move from one point to another in the face of this gale force wind.

In our world today, there can be no doubt that the Holy Spirit is at work (interestingly, the Greek word for “spirit” is “pneuma” which also means “wind” or “breath”).

I recently read that more people in the Islamic world have come to Christ in the last 25 years than in the entire history of Christian missions.

This, and so many other mission facts, are evidence that the wind of God continues to blow throughout our world. We not always understand the way He works, or Why He does what he does – but we see the effects and we know He is at work!

Friends, may our constant prayer be: “Come Holy Spirit!”

 Prayer:

“Breathe on me Breath of God, Fill me with life anew;

That I may love what you love; And do what you would do” (Edwin Hatch (1835-1889)
