DEVOTION:”Listen to Him”

Updated: Jan 30, 2018

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5)
Bible Reading: Matthew 17:1-9

Mountain top experiences! We all experience them at points in our journey of faith. In fact, every Sunday at worship, what a mountaintop moments it is as Jesus comes to us through His Word and through Holy Communion; as we lay down our burdens by confessing our sins, and being reminded that He forgives us!

Of course, every mountain top moment comes to an end, and we all need to face the plains and valleys of life. However, there is a piece of advice given to Peter, James and John, which you and I would do well receiving for ourselves. “Listen to Him!” Child of God, there are many voices down in the valley. There are circumstances that may cause loneliness – listen to Him Who says “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. There are situations that may cause frustration – hear Him Who says: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you…Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

Jesus has the final say on the matter-hear Him!

Prayer: Open my ears, Lord, that I may hear, open my eyes so I know you are near. Your tender loving voice to heed; always on your word to feed.
