JOSEPH (Advent - Day 3)

TEXT: “19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly”(Matthew 1:19).

CONTEXT: Matthew 1:18-25

Men, what would you do? The woman you love; the one you are planning to spend the rest of your life with let’s you know that she is “with child”! What emotions are racing through your head and your heart? “How could you?” “Who is he? Let me at him!”

Whatever he was feeling – we are not told. However we are told of the tension Joseph faced - tension between being true to the Law while protecting Mary as much as possible.

One thing I’ve come to learn about God is that He doesn’t leave us alone in our wrestling and confusion. He brings what’s necessary to, at the very least (and usually it's more than enough), provide the peace necessary in the situation. This He does for Joseph. He speaks to Joseph in a dream and assures Him that this is of Him.

Joseph moves from a point of confusion to acceptance of God’s purposes in these developments. Easy? No. But do-able? Yes. God had this and whatever happened, come what may, he, Mary and God would get through this together.

Are you facing a confusing situation in your own life, that you are struggling to make sense of? May you know God’s comforting and assuring presence. God’s got this one! Rest in Him.

Pause and reflect:

· Where do you need God’s peace and direction today.

· Why not ask Him for it right now.

PRAYER:

Father, the way is not clear, eyes dim

Clarity of sight and vision I need;

Please fill me with your peace and your presence

Help me your tender voice clearly heed
