NEED A COUNSELLOR? (Advent - Day 12)

Text: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

The season of Advent and Christmas is a very special time of year – a time of celebration, of joy and of laughter! However, this period is also one of the loneliest and saddest for many.

This season can be one of broken dreams; shattered hopes, depression, stress, gloom and doom.

As a pastor, a crucial lesson learnt is that one needs to know when one has reached the end of one’s resources/abilities in helping someone. There comes a time, when having done all one possibly can, one needs to refer an individual to a professional counsellor.

Well, I’d like to do that today, Dear Friend. Are you feeling like the people in Isaiah’s day – the enemy has come in full force and has ravaged you on different levels? It’s been a tough year, and you are depleted, devastated and drained.

May I refer you today to the One Who offers hope, Who is hope; the Counsellor who knows you better than you know yourself, our Lord Jesus.

Hope has a name – His name is Counsellor.

Prayer

Jesus, my Counsellor, confidant, friend

See my pain, the cries of my heart;

Touch me, heal me, make me whole,

Please give me a brand new start.
